2001 SHAKESPEARE und PARTNER

SHAKESPEARE und PARTNER
for us means the encounter with and the analysis of William Shakespeare's work and those works by contemporary playwrites, written especially for us.

SHAKESPEARE und PARTNER
also means having a common history with the partners from the hosting theatres, those partners we go on stage with as ensembles and the audiences whom we play for.

From 1968 until 1983 we were part of the ensembles in the municipal- and state theatres in Bochum, Frankfurt/Main, Wiesbaden, Berlin and Zürich. These theatres had an important influence on the artistic and political development of German theatre. From 1983-2001, as founding members of the bremer shakespeare company, we brought the Globe Theatre's idea of the "wooden O" - Shakespeare's popular theatre and contemporary issues - to German and international stages. Seven of our productions were screened on television. We have directed, acted and produced 30 different Shakespeare plays. Dagmar Papula wrote 10 plays for the Dramatikerwerkstatt (workshop for playwrites). In co-operation with the German Goethe Institutes and Inter Nationes we went on tour through numerous countries and performed in London, Sofia, Genua, Helsinki etc.. During that time we were honoured with various awards: the Literaturf&oouml;rderpreis des Landes Bremen, the F&oouml;rderpreis der Akademie der Künste in Berlin, the Deutschen Kritikerpreis and the Sonderpreis der INTHEGA.

We were the first theatre company worldwide to re-open the London Globe Theatre, which was restored after nearly 400 years. We also worked as actor/actress, professor and writer in London and Toronto for a year and a half.
